Default KQ700 recommended octane rating

Just picked up a new KQ Friday. I asked the salesman what octane fuel I should use and he said 93. The manual states 87. Is this a high compression engine? If not, I don't see a need for 93. I don't believe paying more for fuel means it's better. What are other KQ owners running in their engine?

BTW, I bought one with a VIN# > JSAAP41A_52115956

I run 87 octane per the manual. That is all you need.

Surprising that you got one over the magic number. They must of sold a lot more than we were led to believe.

That's not just over the magic number, that IS the magic number. #52115956 is supposed to be the break point between the bushing versions and the bearing versions of the KQ.

Retic - Did your KQ come with the 5 year tranny warrantee or did it just have the standard 6 months?

The salesman walked me over to the crate, verified the vin# was greater than the one I had printed out. Had it preped and ready to go in 30 min. There was no mention of an extended 5 year warranty on the reverse. Forgot to ask because I had so many other questions. But I do remember talking to him over the phone 1 week before hand and he did mention it! I'm very happy with it!!!!!

oh man, I am excited to see the magic number has been passed, I go in monday with my choice of 3 different KQs, already got approved on the financing. They have one of each color and 2 are still in the box! I hope the red or yellow is past that number!

I have now found 2 green with the higher numbers, no red and no yellow, seems they sell the green faster and thats why they are here first.... I am gonna live with the green in hopes that I will NEVER have reverse problems!

Well....hmm, mine is green and it's almost 1000 over the vin # to watch for. The sales guy did tell me he had red with a number greater than the vin# to watch for. Didn't actually see it because I wanted green.
