if the threads are messed up a little then try to clean the threads with a tap. if they're really bad you might try to find an over sized plug and then have it retapped

You are going to have to retap the threads. A rubber plug is only going to fall out and drain all the oil and do more damage to the engine.

no rubber plug! your dealer should be able to supply you with a kit to repair this or most any auto parts store sells them for fixin oil pans. probably a 12x1.25 stock hole so you can drill and tap for 14.just had to do this on my 05 kq. if you dont have the tools or ability to do this take it to the dealer. easily less than an hour job so shouldnt be too $$.depending on how much meat there is you may only get one shot at it. good luck

Pay the $100 and consider it a lesson.

Or any garage should be able to do it.

But I'd go with prj5757 and get the kit.

i realize you dont have a drain pan. but be it drain pan, engine block or differential cases the fix is all the same. if you have any doubts, i agree with eiger. take it to the dealer and pay the $100.00 then youre covered. thats about an hour and a half labor and parts. seems reasonable. good luck.
