Default Z400 noise

My freind has a Z400 that started making a loud rattle noise that sounds like it is coming out of the engine/transmission. It only makes it in 3rd,4th & 5th. We tightened up the chain and checked the sprocket and everything seemed ok. Also checked for loose bolts. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help. GB

how old is the bike? it could be the timing chain is loose, or the gears are loose in the transmission.
get it checked before it wrecks the motor/trans

Mine had a vibration in the plastic, and I remember others posting about the same thing. It was hard to pinpoint but it went away on its own after a while.

I did talk to a guy with a z400 last summer, he asked if my timing chain went, beacause his did and bent his valves he said. Might be worth the shop rate to have a mechanic check it out if you don't find loose bolts.

That sounds like a potential answer because the noise sounds like it's coming out of the engine/transmission area. I guess we are going to just open it up. Thanks everybody
