I had read previously in the forum about other Vinson owners having a rattle occur in their mufflers. My muffler startle to rattle after my last outing. The noise sounds like it is coming from the inside of the muffler. I double checked all of the connectors on the outside and everything is tight and secure. My dealer had not heard of this problem. Others had noted that they had been able to get a warranty fix. I'm outside the 6 mos warranty range. What is the experience of other Vinson owners and what do you suggest as a solution (short of buying a new muffler out of my own pocket)?

 

I'm having the same problem with my 03 vinson 5 speed. I'm on my second muffler. The dealer said he will replace this one also, but before he does it, he is looking into putting one from a 04 or 05 , so they are checking to see if it will fit. I wanted to put either a FMF Powerline or a Supertrapp IDSX on it, but the dealer said forget it, he is doing this on warranty even though the warranty was off ages ago. The muffler changed on the 04's so maybe there was a problem with rattling so thats why they changed it. The rattling seems to be most noticeable at idle and low speeds. Everything is tight like you said, I even held the heat shield but that didn't stop the rattling. I think it is some spot welding on the baffle that has broke loose and it is the baffle that rattles around. Sometimes it rattles sometimes it doesn't, it's frustrating. You can take the muffler off and shake it and it doesn't rattle. I've taken the spark arrestor off also and everything is tight inside, it's strange.

 

have either of you had any problems with this sence the last update. Im now on my third muffler luckily they have all been covered under warenty

 

I never did get the muffler off of a 04 or 05 to try. It has gone for quite a few months now and has never rattled so I've just left it. This is my second muffler and it was covered under warranty.

 

Dealer wouldn't replace the muffler under warranty. I didn't want to spend the $ on a new one. So, it rattles. It runs fine, just rattles. The rattling is only noticeable when rattling, so for now, it will remain. When I get the dough together, I'll get a performance muffler, jet kit, etc.
