ok I looked it up and it says about 1900, def would have to be in dam good shape, I would say the 400ex would be slower than a lt w/ the powervalve (flame away) but I have never ridden a lt without so I couldnt say

new dg bumper (100) and fmf silencer(100), both havent even seen dirt, new rear dominators(200) with 2 rides, along with a K&n filter w/ precharger (70) also with only 2 rides. new swingarm bearings, rear axle carrier bearings, a-arm bearings (200 bucks) shock covers, twist throttle, new top end like 1 week old, it hasnt even ran with the top end yet, I cant think of what else but I have to get a new stator the spark has been weak, thats costing me 130, thats about 900 in parts alone, I think 1700ish is fair, thats what I paid for it 2 yrs ago and it needed some attention then, but once the stators back on it will be fun again, send me an email if you are interested in more, I'll try to get a profile on here with some pictures

to help keep this at the top untill some people with more knowledge on the earlier lt's chime in, heres what I can think of but dont quote me I may be wrong, the earlier lt's dont have the powervalve, I believe their suspension travel isnt as long, the aftermarket for them is equal for both, well I guess thats all I can think of...I wouldnt go jumping into anything unless you're sure its what you want there are a ton of them around and you will probably find a better deal if you hold up, 86LT250RFatty sold his for 800us, but whats that something like 1200ish, can, still look around some before you jump into it, put a comp tester on there see what it says if he really did just redo the topend it should be nice and high well over 100psi, you should also be able to tell just by kicking it, my lt started up first kick when I got it, but 1 month later it wouldnt run when I re did he top end the first time I was amazed at how much compression it was lacking, just starting up doesnt mean its rebuilt, ahhh I could right a book, though it probably wouldnt make much sense...

Ok, I have had plenty of first hand experience with both the '85(same as 86 but smaller carb) and '87(first year for the powervalve) The 85/6 motor is real smooth, they have decent bottom end and have a linear power delivery right on through. The quad is real light. Handling is a bit worse than a 400ex, but these things absolutely love to slide. Stock suspension was decent in the day but would be rated fair at bestby todays standards. The frames have a tendency to crack and the bottom tubes rust through. Be sure to check the shock mounts, footpeg mounts, and the lower frame rails. Don't fret if those areas look bad, as they can be welded better than ever. They really are a fun bike to ride though. The light weight and low seat height make them very stable and fun to toss around. I have nnever ran against a 400ex, but should be competitive if not faster. I haven't had much trouble finding parts for my '85. The 87+ models are faster, wider, and handle better. In mint condition I would probably go no higher than 2k US. I paid less than $1500 for mine.

Ok so far so good.... is there anything better on the 85-86 then the 87+ like the motor...... weight.. or is the 87+ all around a better ATV?.... you guys say the frame is weak and shocks are not that great but are we talking like for BIG jumps? the biges jump i would be doing is something around 5-6 feet tops... would that still be a problem? for messing up that frame and shocks? Would i be better off geting a ( 1995 yamaha blaster 200cc two stroke for 1500.00) keep up the great work guys thanks again!
