Default "Dirty" secrets of the CVT's revealed!

Have you lost 3-5 mph on the top end of your CVT equipped Eiger or Vinson (or any CVT equipped model, for that matter) ? A common misconception is that belt stretch is the culprit. The real cause is a little "dirtier"-literally. A cheap (free) and relatively easy fix will get back those MPH. What has happened is belt dust (not related to "pixie dust" ) has "gunked up the rollers behind the moveable drive face plate (mdfp). This is the front plate on the clutch assembly. Simply remove the clutch cover, the pull the mdfp and blow/wipe the dust out of the plate and off of the rollers. A helping hand will be required if you don't want to remove the rear brake arm. After cleaned, put it back together and ~viola~ you mph's should be back. Don't attempt this unless you are decent w/ tools. Also use some thread lock (red) on the bolts that hold the outer cover on. These babies tend to vibrate loose if not "locked".

Thanks 581. Great to hear you are getting the Vinnie fortified! While I had all of the plastic off of mine (doing all of this service work/hop-ups) , you were on my mind. I couldn't help doing a thorough frame inspection. Luckily, the only thing I found was the clutch side floor board support was bent a little. I don't know why they didn't continue the "loop" back to the frame, "ala" nerf set-up. Take some pics, as I'd like to see the new n' improved Vinson.

can do i will get pics every step of the way, i noticed in 2005 that peg thing you are talking about that they actaully route it back to the frame now....on the 5spds anyways.

its sad for me to say this but the more bikes i ride, i would have to say i WOULD NOT ever get a suzuki again unless they could prove to be reliable, the KQ is awesome and i saw a few today, they look mean and go ***** ta the walls, but one guy kept having problems getting into reverse so that was a MAJOR turnoff to me, i rode a few Z-400s and boy im not impressed they feel very top heavy, any time i was in the air, or hammering whoops the bike would pitch one way, i hated it, my 400ex is the opposite, and imho better built.

i went riding with a ton of bikes today

my 400ex
2004 warrior
1999 fully race preped warrior
2003 lakota sport
2003 ozark - fun as all heck
2002 P360- slow as heck
1994 Blaster
2001 DS650
2002 TTR-125
couple YFZ's
450r's
and tons of other bikes

the ds was leaking coolant all the sudden, the lakota would just shut off randomly when hot, the 2 warriors and ALL the 400ex's were getting the heck beat outta them and never skipped a beat ( 2 best quads made) the other quads had some stupid problems, like on a kfx the ignition shorted out, b.s~ its a 2005~

all in all i belive after time will tell incidents, yamaha and honda are the 2 MOST RELIABLE, mabey not the best, or most featured but they dont break knock on wood, and 20 yrs later i bet they will still be running. i also saw a 1985-1987 lt250r today, thats the **** that should be built today, dirt bike motors have no problems and never die, it amazes me

i will let everyone know on the vinny completion w/ pics
