I was at a local riding area one day and two guys came in they had a 300ex, 400ex, and the z400. I live in GA so the compact dirt comment stated higher up may apply but I haven't ever riden in sand before, but anyway the guy that owned the Z was on the Honda all day the Suzuki never left the trailer. Just what I saw not an opinion. For those who think I ride nothing but Honda, I own 1 quad and it is a Suzuki 230. rest are Honda 2 wheelers.

The Z400 is one of the best all around quads for the track, dunes, and trail. It can do it all.

I guess someone with 2 Hondas .... j/k good question all I can guess is they brought it to tow the Hondas out if they broke down. I normally ride each one of mine every time so I don't get bored riding one bike all day. But they never even moved it. It looked brand new so maybe they didn't want to wreck it or mess it up. I don't know but your right that is wierd.

I love my Z. I ride with a couple people that have 400ex's and they are just about the same all together but I think the Z is just an all around better quad!

the z/kfx 400 can do anything.. it is a great ALL AROUND QUAD. its not excelling in one area and not another.. but is good at everything.

the 400ex doesnt have the power a z/kfx 400 has.. so ull b better off to get it. it also has reverse, unlike the 400ex till this year.

the 400ex is a great all around quad but i'd go for the Z400. lots more power and better suspension and may cost a little more
so it all depends on how much you want to spend

i would get the z it has reverse and is liquad cooled and it takes a lot to make a ex faster then a z...... not saying the ex aint a good machine if u want a good trail machine it would work well but in my opinion i would rather own a 03 z then a 04 ex any day
