Default z400 not running right

my 03 z400 idles fine but when you give it gas it cuts out and backfires. i figured there was water in the fuel so i dumped a little bit of dry gas in and drained the carbuerater bowl, but it still wont run right. it did this once before but it sat overnight and ran the next day. my parking brake doesn't work and my buddy said that the parking brake on his warrior was sticking and it was running the same way. Does anyone have any ideas on why it isn't running or know more on this parking brake deal?

The cutting out and backfire are signs of lean. Check to see if the main jet is plugged. Youll have to drop the float bowl and check it out. While the float bowl is off, check for crud in the bottom of it, if you find any, then you should put an in line fuel filter on, to stop it from happening again.

that sounds valid just drain the whole tank and put totally good gas in, it may be the wrong stuff on top of cleaning the carb

Same out come here.

When that happened to me I had just put a new K&N intake on my Z.

All I had to do was go up 2 sizes on the main and now it'll climb a tree if I let it.

Make sure your choke is functioning properly. When you move the lever make sure it is actually working in the carb. Mine got wet once after washing it and the lever would work but it wasn't moving anything in the carb.

i dont think its what you mentioned above about the parking brake, because i ran the motor for a few minutes today and the header was glowing red, if im correct doesnt that mean its running lean?
