in the hotcams stage1 is just the intake cam.stage2 is the exhaust cam.hotcams now make a stage 2 ex/cam with the auto decompressor and one with out.the ex/cam without the auto decompressor is going to have more lift and duration than the one with it.i say if your not going to race than go with both cams.and go with the ex/cam stage 2 with the auto decompressor because the ex/cam with out it will be harder on your starter .

Go with the Web cams... I had the stage 2 hotcams in and they were decent... But now i have the webcams and they are alot better then the hotcams. The webcams have more selection to choose from or even a custom grind if you want. Plus they weigh half of what hotcams weigh, which means less rotating mass on the engine, also because the webcams are so light it wont strain your starter as much as the hotcams do.. Even if you were to get the same grind as the stage II hotcams, with the webcams you would still get more performance out of the webcams. The Webcams i put in mine gave me about 4-5 quads leangths over the hotcams.
If you do choose the hotcams for some strange reason then i have the hotcams stage II cams for sale...... I dont want them...

Hotcams do weigh more. They will put more stress on your timing chain.

With that said, hotcams are quite a bit cheaper (stage 2 for $240 at woodwardspecialties.com) and they give a good gain over stock.

like i said for trail and maybe a little racing i would go with the new hotcam 2 with the decomp built in and will not wear your starter and battery.the web cam and the more aggressive hotcam 2 don't have the decomp.

My hotcams have no decompression mechanism, I have had my hotcams since december 04. I have not had any problems with it starting hard.

I think it might come down to what you want to spend, Hotcams are the cheapest, heavy, and depending on where you get them you may, or may not get the Auto decomp which is nice. The new style exhaust cam does have a different grind and of corse the auto decomp. If you choose Hotcams I would upgrade your timeing chain to at least a 3/4th for another $40, cheap insurance. Less rotating mass means quciker reving and more power in the long run. I know that Web started doing a custom grind for a lot of Z400 fokes on another fourm called the "jack grind". If you have a high comp piston, or plan on getting one this is an awsome combo. Yoshi makes cams for a Z also but they are not cheap, not sure on the preformance of them either. I am also not sure if the web cams have the auto-decomp but honestally I don't think its that big of a deal as long as you have a strong battery.
