new tires on king quad
#1
Just got back from having new tires mounted on my king quad. Can't wait to go riding tomorrow to try them out. 26x10x12 on the fronts, and 26x12x12 , mud lite xl's. I rode it around in the field by the tire shop. Man what a difference, can't wait to try them on the trails.

Went for a ride up to the mountains today. Once i got the air right, the tires were awesome. They really improved the handling, especially in turns. I didn't have all that sliding, they really dug in and gripped. The trails i rode were a combination of rocky to smooth, to a few mud holes. That' s where there really going to shine. I can't wait for some snow, you want to talk about roost. They were a tad bit rougher riding, but nothing that bothered me. I think it is a good trade off. I'm running 5psi in the fronts, and 4.5 in the rears. I'll probably play around with the preload on the springs. I've got them set at 4 now.

regor, what did those cost if you don't mind? Also, did you get new rims too or just the tires? Can't wait to see updated pics. My cousin just bought a new Rubicon tonight and we just got done talking tires but we both agreed that we weren't going to buy new ones until we wore down the stock ones that we just got done paying for. Let me know if you don't mind. Thanks

the stock rims work fine. I took them to a local tire shop i trust. Les Schwab will mount them for you. It's not cheap, cost me $60 to have them mounted.

Stocks - You had asked me a while back whether I am planning to maybe go with a 2005 KQ (above the magic number), or wait for a 2006 model instead. Sorry for my delayed response; I've been away for a few weeks. I will definitely be waiting another 2+ months or so for a new 2006 model.
regor - Nice pics on your profile page. I see your acquaintance, Jim, has a Grizz and you have a KQ. Those are the two machines I have narrowed my search to for a new big bore. What is your honest opinion of each? Also, I see you're in Sac-town. I am up Redding way. Did you purchase your KQ in the Sac area? If so, would you mind sharing where, and what sort of OTD price were you subjected to? Dealer up here quoted me about $7,500 OTD for a new 2005 model a month or so ago. That, in my opinion, is still a little steep given what I can get one for back near home (Kentucky).

Yeah everything cost more here in cal. I paid 7500 otd for mine. I bought halloween day, so they had just came out. I really had to haggle to get it for that price. I was at a different dealer the other day. He had a red 05 on the floor, marked at 7400 otd. i didn't check the serial#. I would probably own a grizzly if the kq hadn't came out. Honestly i think you couldn't go wrong with either quad. I have 3 friends who ride grizzlys, and their happy with them. At the time i purchased my kq, grizzlys were in short supply, and the price was real close. All my grizzly riding friends have ridden my kq, and the biggest difference they point out is how much lighter it feels. I think the kq is a better bike, from my seat time on my friends grizzlies. The new tires really make a difference. Hey Doug i'm going to be up your way next week, i rented a house up by shasta city for a few days. lets go riding!

Good luck with the new tires. I have the same tires and size on my rincon. My buddy has a new KQ and wants to get new tires. Do you have any clearance problems with the 10x12 front and 12x12 rear,on the stock rims?
