Suzuki King Quad
#1
Hello:
I would like have anybody give me any reason to not buy a Suzuki King Quad, please be specific and tell me why not to buy and don’t be shy. I have pretty much set to buy a King Quad, I am just hoping that I not over looked anything in my decision process since I can not find anybody in my area to test ride before I buy I need all to input I can get. I do a lot of technical riding down and up steep hills and forest trails. I live in southern California where we don’t have too much water and mud, but I do cross streams from time to time. Any reply would be greatly helpful. Thanks.

I can give you a few reasons not to buy a King Quad.
1. If you DON'T like going 70 MPH don't buy one.
2. If you DON'T like a very smooth stable riding machine with easy steering, don't buy one.
3. If you DON'T like fuel injection, don't buy one.
4. If you DON't like a high quality, well engineered, well built machine, don't buy one.
I think you get the point, you will not regret buying a KQ. My only advice would be to replace the stock air filter with a good aftermarket foam/oiled filter.

Good call 1tonchev. My thoughts exactly. I must add to that list that if you are one of those guys who only looks at sheer power and nothing else on the complete package, don't buy a KingQuad. Oh believe me, it does have ***** and a very well-distributed powerband for a single-cylinder, but it's just not at the very top of the heap. It's fully-capable of 73mph bone stock and will get there in a hurry. The guys that own Brute Forces do indeed have the upper hand in power, but you sacrifice in just about every other category to get this extra power. There will eventually be a new CDI for the electronic ignition timing retard built in to restrict wheelies off the low-end. This does not, I repeat DOES NOT mean it has no low end or torque; it's just deadened enough from the factory that it takes considerable effort to pull a wheelie. Suzuki did this to avoid lawsuits as did Kawasaki a few years back with the Prairie 650, but there are several ignition enhancements available for it now as hopefully there will be early next year for the King as well. Didn't mean to be so windy, but when you get to talking about my machine.........

There have been alot of complaints about the steering of the King quad. It is the lightest steering quad I have ever been on. I personally never had a problem with the steering but have read alot of reports of twitchiness at high speed (darting around) and especially when going down hill reports of the handle bars getting ripped out of your hand and going "full lock" to one side or the other. I had never experienced this personally until last week. While going slow down a very rocky trail I hit the rong thing and they did indead get ripped to the left and I came to an abrubt stop. When you said you do technical riding down steep trails I thought you might want to know this complaint.
On this forum this has been discussed under the thread "king quad worst handeling quad ever"?
On Nyroc's forum it has been discussed in much greater detail. There are also those using steering stabilizers that seem to help. But the best fix IMO has been done by a guy named demijohn on Nyroc's forum. He worked in the steering field on cars and measured the amout of caster on the king quad and found it to be 1.6 degrees positive caster. Most quads are 4 degrees and up. The lower caster makes for the light feeling steering the quad has but it could also be the reason for the twitchy and full lock steering. He has come up with a fix and explains how to do it in detail. Anyway all who have done it say it is much better.
Check out nyrocs forum and make a informed decision.
I am not telling you this to steer you away from getting a King, I am very happy with mine. Infact I believe its the best all round quad out except for possibly the Bombardier 800.
Good luck with your decision.

I have sent an e-mail to Yoshimura to let them know the situation with the "lag" we all experience on the bottom-end. I encourage each and every one of you who wish to get rid of it to do the same. Let them know there is a rather large market for this sort of product. They work very closely with Suzuki and chances are, they can figure it out right from big yellow themselves without breaking a sweat. Let them know you'd be willing to shell out the cash for something to kill the ignition retards on this machine and unleash the beast. Yeah, chances are it won't work, but with enough of an outcry.........well you just never know, do you?

I just emailed them Red Goblin! Hopefully they can make something..they are certainly a bigger company than VDI.
Maybe you should start a new topic telling everyone to email them...maybe even people who don't own a King Quad will see our need for this and email them

Hey thank you guys both very much. Topgun and I are hoping for a huge response, but it's going to take a lot to persuade a big company like Yoshimura that there is a market for this thing. I'm even thinking about letting the guys over in the Kawasaki side of things know about it so that we can have a little more even race with these Prairies and Brute Forces

Your investment will not be regretted! This is without a doubt the "all around" best machine on the market. I have heard some of this stuff about "low-end" lag....really? Man...I can't tell if there is any low end lag...mine has got tons of low end growl and grab! I have a friend who just bought a 800 polaris. In fact, everything he buys is polaris...however, he keeps drooling when he gets close to the K.Q. Don't waste anymore time...go get one!
