Default Raptor 700r v.s, ltz450 v.s. 06 yfz v.s. 06 trx v.s. pred/outlaw

I am thinking of selling my 04 kfx400 and geting a 700R, Ltz 450 , yfz450. I really like 700r because efi is cool and it is totally reworked from the 660r. Don't get me wrong i like the kfx400 but I want more low end. i really donot want to give up reverse and by the way i don't do mx riding. i love woods riding and fast trail riding and a little jumping. i was going to consider a predator/outlaw but the are heavy and pred seat sucks . Ltz 450 is not even out yet but always a choice if it does go with reverse. The only thing i do not like about 700r and ltz450 is the first year problems. so if i got either of them it would be 2007s. the yfz is fast i give it that but the seats on the 05s are so hard and a i donot like the mx power band. do you think the ltz450 will come with reverse. Now considering outlaw or pred or 06 trx450 with electric start

Here are your 2 choices. That is if reverse is as important as you say it is:

#1 Sell your KFX and buy a new Raptor. You figure up the cost.

#2 Put a Yosh 450 kit on your bike and it will be faster than the Raptor you just spent $7k on.

I would do what ever produced the faster bike for the cheapest price.

Man if you trail ride mostly don't sell your kfx for a raptor 700,because suspension and handling wise there even.Of course the raptor 700 has alot more power, but you would never really need it in the woods.Plus you would lose around 3 grand after you sell yours and buy a rap 700 and thats not worth it.If most your riding is in the woods,i say stick to your kfx and put a few mods on it,the 450's don't have reverse and thats a must on the trails.IMO.So i think the best deal would be to keep yours and mod it some, however if money is no issue, then go get you a raptor 700,predator,outlaw,and heck why not a 450.lol.Good luck

For a trail only machine, I think the outlaw will be tough to beat.
The 700R is a awesome trail machine and has enough power to play anywhere. I do not even like calling Mine a "Raptor"
The Z400 Platform is a awesome trail machine but Any time you add internal mods to a engine the life and durability are lessened, Sometimes a lot sometimes a little.

thanks, I needed to hear that. That one of the reasons why I don't want to put any motor mods, I like to keep my quads problem free as possible a 450 kit is not my style. please give me more input. it is much help full. Should i wait until the second year models of the raptor and ltz, so they can improve and work the kinks out of them ( almost all first year models have some little problems) AIR does any have any problem with their 06 raptors , any other people who has it

First of all, I forgot the Polaris quads have reverse now. So I those are options too.

Second, don't be concerned about throwing a simple bore/higher compression piston along with an FCR carb on your bike. These engines are so over engineered that doing a little "bump" hardly effects them. I dune with a buddy who has a CT [435-450, not sure how big] kit that has a bore and bumped comp piston. No cams and yes it still runs on pump gas. He put an FCR39 on it and a full CT exhaust. That bike is as fast or faster than any piped and filtered Raptor all day long and has not been "under the knife" since he put it together 2 dune seasons ago.

I'll tell you right now, if I were to move back to the Indiana/Michigan area and rode the woods again, I would personally buy a used 05 400ex with reverse and have CT or FST put a reliable, 440ish torque monster engine in it that runs on pump gas. You can only use so much power in the woods.

Thanks for the advice, but I don't do mods for two reasons, 1 reason I donot do mods is that I really would need help going it ( I am a matinance ( i spell it wrong) guy and not a mechanic , i would need the help of my brother and dad and they would advise me against it. 2 reason is that when i got to sell the bike the upgrades are not wroth any more ( could part it out). I know a ama expert rider who would trick out his bikes every year when he got one and when he would go to sell it , the parts he put on it would mean nothing as far as price. any one know anything about the kawasaki 500 xc quad. please more input

i think your best choice would be the 700 or the trx450. they both are fast and have good handling. i would buy the trx 450 cuz its cheaper.the yfz is more for mx.

can you feel the landing on the kfx when going off jumps.

I have not had any problems at all, I have close to 500 miles on mine. A couple of guys who bought some from the first production run have had fuel pump issues, Yamaha thought they found them all but it doesnt look like they did. Mine is from the second production run that my dealer got in. I have not heard of 1 issue with a later model.

My advice is find some one to let you ride a 700r you will be hooked.

Air did you get test drive it first at the dealer. Me and my dad are best friends with a owner of a yamaha dealership, do you think i should ask to ride it before i buy it. have you rode a z400/kfx is it as comfortable as the raptor
