I have a bad knocking noise that started out very mild but got very loud as 5 to 6 hours of riding went by. Loaded up and bought home. Had no loss of power, Just the knocking like a rod or something. pulled down topend. All valves look ok and no scratches on the cylinder wall. Any Ideas?

 

what did the piston look like? or the rod?
it sounds like a bearing went bad on the rod or the piston
wrist pin and bushing . good luck in what you find out

 

i take it your cam chain tensiooner is not all the way out

 

reassembled loosely this moring, cam chain tensioner was out all 12 clicks and chain was still very loose which would explain not starting due to timing being very retarded. Also could see markes on head in chain valley where it was slapping it. that was probably the knocking noise. ordered parts about 100 bucks, much cheaper than paying someone. Thanks for the help I think that was it.
