If it is still within warranty, take it in and have the ECM replaced with an updated one. The new ECM is supposed to limit the amount of time and RPM in reverse. I personally don't think this has ever been an issue that some people make it out to be. But, by updating to the newer ECM, you get 5 years warranty for a reverse gear failure.

You probebly already have the new ecm. You can check to see if you got the new ecm or not. There are two serial #'s on the unit. On the original one the first one ends in 31G00, and the second 2440. The new updated one has a 1 in place of both of the last 0 in both numbers.
Basically what happened is suzuki used a bushing in the old reverse gear and didnt have a way to get this bushing oil. Now they are using a needle bearing design with a hole to feed it oil. Sorry for the vague explanation Im no mechanic.
How it happens is you will hear a pop and the gear lets go (like your in nuetral)
I have the old design and before I knew about the problem I did some towing in reverse and never had a problem. I have read where guys did nothing but push the gas and the gear would let go. I have not heard of one going in quite a while.

Man I dont know what Id do. There are guys paying good $ for those on ebay. They dont have the nutless reverse and they dont have the time outs after 60 seconds. I guess you might have a fight on your hands for the 5 year warranty though if you dont have the new one and your reverse did go. When did you buy the quad? Didnt you get the recall notice or did you buy it recently and the dealer just didnt put it in?

The guy I know that had one blow was just backing his KQ out of the garage and it let loose. He had hardly driven the thing and probably didn't use the reverse more than a handful of times.
The bad part was that the dealer had told him it was a model with the corrected reverse. I guess they call them stealers for a reason.

I have read where your extended warranty would not cover it if you still had the old ecm. Who is to blame for you not having the new ecm? I think your dealer is IMO, so I think they should cover you either way. But I doubt Suzuki will see it that way.
