Default vinson 500 vs outlander 400

I have an outy 400 and was wondering how a vinson 500 would compare. I plan to keep the outy and trade in a 400 sportsman. I would plow with vinson and would like to know how well it shifts. The outy is not smooth shifting so I would not plow with it. Has anyone driven both, if so how dose the handling compare? What is the top speed on the level? Please be truthful. I dont know anyone arround here with a suzuki but I have heard that it is a pretty good machine. Also I have been reading about some suzuki smoking problems on the forums is this only the king quad or do all suzuki's have a potential smoke problem?

thanks

I traded my Honda Foreman 450ES for my new Vinson Auto, and the Suzuki wins hands down. (Sorry, don't have an outy.)
There is no shifting of gears in the 500 (belt drive). You do have a high and low selection.
I've heard that top end is about 53 to 54mph.
I have only heard about the smoking in the King Quad.
I just finished plowing, and I now have 20 miles of plowing with a 60" blade. I run out of traction before I even think of running out of power. (Pushing wet snow into 4' high piles.)

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply. The outy is also belt drivev auto but the shifting problem is when going from lo to reverse sometimes you have to rock the machine this is known as the outy hump.

I have two Vinsons, an 02 and 03. the 02 had a stiff shifter. Mine went out at 1200 miles and had to be replaced. The 03 is much smoother and I have not had any problems with it. They are fantastic machines to say the least. I love the ride, power and sportiness of them. They can get down and work with the best of them as well. My Father-in-law has an outy 400. He likes it but has no knowledge of ATVs and has not owned anything else to compare it with. When I rode his I was not as impressed with it as my Vinsons.

i love my 05 vinson. mines a manual and i havnt had a bit of trouble out of it and it has 250 miles on it. the top speed on mine was 62 mph with stock tires but when i put on my 27" lightfoots the top speed is now 52mph. i dont know anything about the outy but the vinson seems to be a fun reliable machine with lots of power.

The 05-06 Vinson is becomming a very dependable and bullet proof quad for the money.

iv never riden an auto vinson but i have riden with them, the 02 was the only year they had shifter problems. I have riden an outy 400 and it was a nice machine but it dosent compare to the vinny's power or handleing. My friend brought one home last summer and someone had told him he could beat any 500 class machine but aparently whoever that was never had seen a vinny, cause even with a healthy jump on me i had him by about 4 lenghths at 300 yards. my speedo only goes up to 62 for some reason but with about 9 psi in the tires ov got mine to 69 mph on gps on pavment on the level. the auto is a bit slower somewhere in the low 60's. mine has never smoked a day in its life. just wish they would make a king quad with a manual

This is a repeat of an older post of mine, but I rode with a guy at the Oregon dunes last summer and he was on an Outlander 400 (I assume they are all autos). I beat him off the line every time, and we had approx the same top speed and hill climbing ability. That was when my Eiger was still bone stock. Now, it wouldn't even be a contest.

The short answer is that the Vinson would beat the Outlander 400 very easily in the speed and power departments. Of course, you are asking to compare a 400 to a 500 class machine and that is not neccessarily fair. The Vinson in recent years has scored well in all of the tests. ATV Rider rated it higher than some larcer CC machines.

The smoking problem is only on the King Quad, no doubt about it.
