Suzuki brake pads
#1
Has anyone else had problems with the OEM pads? I had to replace the pads on my Ozark within the first year, and the metal backing was worn half-way through. The outside rear pad on my vinson appearently came apart and the inner pad fell out as it is not pinned. I just got through replaceing the front pads on the Vinson as they were wearing into the metal backing. The Vinson only has about 375 miles on it. I do ride in a lot of mud but this seems a bit extreme.

If your riding in alot of mud they will definetly wear quikly, especially the rear brakes. and disc brakes on rear that are esposed to everything ( like the vinnies) wear realy fast. Rear brakes on all my atv's have lasted maybe a 1/3rd of the life the front have. also make sure you clean your quad or at least the brake calipers/pads after riding in mud, i try to clean mine pretty good after each ride where i got into good mud. my rear pads on vinnie lasted about 3-400 miles and my front lasted almost 1000, i just replaced them all with EBC Severe Duty pads, will see how well they hold up. its said they will last a good bit longer than stock and i payed less than i would have for a stock set. about $80 shipped front and rear. dealer wanted $100 for stock.

I changed my rears at just under 500 miles. I used the EBC severe duty and had to change them yesterday with 1500 mile on my Vinny. I ride lot of mud and the roughest trails I can find.

I ride in mud and sand 90% of the time and have to change both the front and rear pads on my Vinson every 200 miles and I can tell you I rarely even use the brakes. They just wear out fron the sand and mud rubbing all the time. I'm also (over) due for a rotor change also at 1000 miles. The same is true of my eigers (front pads). The backs are sealed drum so I have not had any problems with that yet. Kinda wish the Vinson has drums as well. I use EBC pads as well. Some people I ride with (serious mudders) go through a set of pads in a weekend.

I was wonderin about this, I went into my dealer at like 100 miles and said my brakes were gone wonderin if they were warranteed for goin out that soon. I didn't think they'd go that quick. The guy said if you ride a lot of mud they'll wear fast. This is my first quad so I had no idea....I guess we just gotta deal with it.

Thanks for the info everybody. Guess I'm not alone. This was my first season mudding so i'm learning as I go. I didn't put on OEM pads, I got some off ebay and they were thicker so hopefully they will last longer. I saw were honda added wipers to some of their calipers, maybe Suzuki will fallow suit and we can retro-fit them.

I have been reading posts on this forum for the past 4 years about how quickly the Vinson pads wear. I have over 800 miles on mine and they still look good. I've even taken the caliper off to check the wear just to be sure. Maybe I'm not as hard on mine as others are, but I have not had the problems others have.
