Default Z 400 cover

Hey guys, I have an 05 Z and the cover is said to be corroding, so I was wondering where I could find a colored one or something...

Yes it's corroding and you need to contact your dealer immediately, there may be damage beyond the cover. Some dealers have been replacing them on the warranty and some people have been getting the run around.

If you want to try and fix it yourself, look to ebay. I don't know anyone that sells colored ones, your best bet would be powdercoating.

Don't look at the cover, you need to look under the water pump, this is where it starts. Here are some pictures to show you what it SHOULDN'T look like. This will eventually lead to the case side and then the coolant will start mixing with the oil. Better check again.

If you are the only one that doesn't have this problem, I would be very surprised. You need to pull the water pump and have a closer look!

so, is suzuki just replacing the covers, or, are they addressing the root of the problem and/or replacing the water pumps and stuff too?

i ask b/c im thinking about getting a new leftover '05 Z and if it's a problem, then i want it taken care of before it becomes a problem, if i wind up getting the bike.

supposedly the cover and the pump cover (the magnesium parts). Only these are corroding. supposedly if you don't show too many signs of corrosion, you can ditch the regular water and use water-wetter or something (don't quote me on this).

Is this only a problem with the 05's or does it include the 06's as well? I have heard that some are replacing the cover with the earlier aluminum ones. Is it only one part that is replaced or are there more pieces?

'06's as well. And anything that is magnesium that coolant flows through should be replaced. So I guess actually just the cover because the pump housing is aluminum. Hmm.

i just went through this whole ordeal. the dealership replaced the whole water pump system, cover, pretty much anything affected or corroded UNDER WARRANTY FOR FREE. I wanted to get an aluminum cover but they only would pay for the same magnesium one. This is okay though becasue if you get it replaced you can just swith over to EVANS COOLANT, type NPGR. make sure you bring it in now though because most of the parts are on backorder and im sure you want to get it fixed by spring. According to the dealer though since everything is on backorder then a lot of ppl are having this problem and a recall may be in order. If you have to warranty though i would bring it in ASAP and get it fixed. By the way, it is a problem with the 06 models as well.
