Uni or twin air for KQ
#11
Hello all. I am a newbie, but have been cruising in and out for a while now reading other posts. Anybody heard and feedback on the K & N filter? I have a 2005 KQ and debating between the Twin Air and K&N.

As of right now, I would not buy a K&N. I have one waiting to go on my King, hopefully tomorrow, but from the looks of it and some people I have talked to who have already had problems, it probably isn't going to work. I am going to put it on at the dealership and if it does not fit properly, I will be purchasing a UNI from the dealership and demanding a refund from K&N. I just did a bunch of mods and sunk quite a bit of money into the King and at this point I just want to ride and not be worrying about my intake.

Well I went to the dealer the other day. Got my uni filter on and new tie rods. Uni filter was 25 bucks installed with oil from the dealer. I took it out yesterday and there is a little diffeence in sound, and a little more power. It definitely makes a more distinct sound as far as air being pulled in the intake. It sounds better, more mean.
The dealer said not to get the K&N, at this point. Either a twin air or his recommondation, a uni.

Update: I bought my yellow 05 KQ 700 today. Ended up paying $7300 OTD that's with 8.9% tax I think that works out to about $6700. I will be picking it up on friday as it's not assembled or updated yet. I am ordering a twin air filter for it. $73.00 is cheap insurance.
Thanks,
Darrell

I bought it direct form TwinAir and installed it this weekend and love it. I haven't seen a Uni but I would be willing to say that the TA has to have the best sealing system. the lid has a big double edge seal all the way around it and it squishes aginst the top of the air box. when you tighten down the lid it pushes down on the cage which inturn squishes the foam filter ring at the bottom between the cage and the bottom of the air box. the wing nut tightens the lid seal and tightens the filter tight aginst the bottom of the air box all at the same time. there is no way anything is getting in unless it goes through the filter. I didn't want to spen the 80 bucks but am very happy with it and would do it again with no questions asked. matter a fact I just bought an 06 Eiger and as soon as I can get the money together I will buy a Twin Air for it.

I looked at both the Uni and Twin Air, but I have had really good results with K&N filters before on various vehicles I have owned. So, I've got the K&N on the way and I guess that means I will be reporting back that it didn't perform and switch to the Twin Air set up (second choice) or it will get the job done. One thing is for sure....anything will be better than that piece of crap from the factory.
