The only major i've heard is that the magnesium parts of you cooling system disolve and leave you with a big mess. Go ahead and get an new Z but demand that your dealer though in the steel parts from the 03's. This will save you a lot of mess, time, and money. Good luck.

Default z400 problums?

On march 20th will be my z's second year birthday, and i am proud to say that nothing has ever broken or prematurly worn out. At least what i have not inflicted on it. But brand doesn't matter, a bike can only take so much, and i guess mine did fine with what i put it throught. But what i put through finally caught up with me and now its costing me about $1500 just in parts, not counting dealer labor.

Default z400 problums?

O.k heres what happened. The 4 slider lock bolts siezed up, i was able to break 3 of them loose, and i tried adjusting it like that, cuz it moved back and forth freely, but eventually when i riding the adjuster bolt broke, without me knowing, and the 4 bolts worked loose and the rear end cocked out of place and my chain jumped. Well luckely i had a wrench with me and i just babied it home and kept tightening the bolts, but the chain still kept jumping. Till finally it got jammed between the sprocket and frame. When it got jammed i tried putting it in reverse and backing it out cuz i couldn't do it by hand, and i ended up twisting the mainshaft and breaking all of my gears, smoking my clutch, and bending my gear fork. So when my dealer took it apart it had really bad worn spots on the cams, and my main bearing were gone, allong with a badly strecthed timing chain. Not saying that was caused by the chain jumping, but it had to be fixed. Thats why i have the mods i have on it now. Peace.

I think you will be very happy with an 05 Z400. The Honda 400ex is a good machine but the Z is just better in every aspect. The only real problem is what speedi said about the magnesium covers. The reverse works great, the front shocks have rezzies on them, overall a great machine. I've had mine for over 2 years with no probs.

Default z400 problums?

I have an 05. And have not had any problem's that I diden't cause myself. I keep hearing about this magnesium plate disolving but I have yet to have A problem with it. I have noticed that the one's having this problem either come from way up north and beyond, or the east coast. I don't know but I kind of wonder if it's not A weather or climet issue. If anyone on the west coast has had this problem I would like to hear about it.
