Brandobank, sorry but your friend is right. The KQ has a big air filter problem, you being from Wis. you might not notice the need for a new filter this time of the year (winter, no dust). But if you wait until the summer time it might be to late. I'v put a twin air on mine with axle grease on the bottom to help seal it up. Before I got my twin air filter I started to notice dust residue on the butter fly under the air filter. Thats when I changed filters. If you ever ride at Mountain you know that the trails get real dusty at times same with Hurley.

Brandobank,
Call Suzuki tech support at 714-572-1490 and ask them why everyone who owns a KQ says to change the stock filter out before you ride it!
They will love hearing that......

I read your post along with some others and quickly called my dealer. My quad starts hard and smokes a little. My dealer said for the 05 king quad there are some problems.
First: the battery that comes with the early king quad 700 (YTZ-16) does not have enough cold cranking amps. One should replace it with the YTZ-20, which now comes in all new king quad 700s. The dealer said suzuki is fully aware of the problem but will more than likely NOT issue a recall on the batteries(Thanks for the support Suzuki).
Second: if you only hace a starting problem in temperatures below 32 degrees, you should purchase a differnt part number spark plug, sorry i don't remember the number but your dealer will know. Again, Suzuki is aware of the problem, but only suggests you buy the plug and will probally not issue a recall. (Thanks for the support Suzuki)
Third: the air filter issue that they are VERY AWARE OF. My dealer said Suzuki has been great at repairing engines that have been damaged from the bad filter, even if your quad is out of warrenty. However, they will send a rep to look at the quad. In order to recieve the repair at no cost the quad must smoke more than normal and you must have a clean stock filter on it, because if it looks like you have been bad at air filter maintance, they won't fix it.
My quad goes in next week.....I will let you know how it goes.

Well I resently attened a suzuki service school and air filters on these models did get brought up. They claim that the stock air filter will appear to look clean but, when it starts to clog up it will pull in air and dirt from under the filter where it goes right into the motor. They suggested for those who ride in dusty areas to buy the Twin Air filter.
Problems battery wise, not the batterys but a draw that drains the battery. You can install a battery tend or dirve it aleast once every 2 weeks for a few miles. They are looken into a solution on the draw may or may not fix it.
Cold weather starting, put in 5w30, suzki does not make a 5w30 but any other ATV oil will be fine.
