Default z 400 gearing......

if i were to get 13 teeth in the front and 41 in the rear i know it will give me acceleration but will i lose top speed if so how much, and could i still use the stock chain? what other combination will give me good speed top or acceleration with stock chain (dont have the money for other chain and mine is still good). if i want to gain acceleration will i lose top speed and vice versa. thanks in advance.

If you gear it down (13/41) you're gonna lose top speed, don't know it the stock chain will work. Just pick up a 13 for the front, like $10, try it out, stock chain will work with that.

According to Alba, you can use the stock chain with 13/41 gearing.

Yeah. The stock chain will work. It still has the same amount of teeth on the sprockets. I would lose the factory chain and get a better one. If you don't, make sure you keep a close watch on it for weak points, especially if you are adding horsepower. I guess you really need to watch any chain, but after seeing my friends factory chain break and bust his case, I decided to get a D.I.D. gold and I keep a close watch on it. As far as losing top end speed, I haven't really noticed it because I do mostly trail riding. But it does make it faster off the line, and that's where I like it.

DID is a better chain, but the first thing you should do is get a case saver, so even if ANY chain breaks, you aren't buying a new case.
