Vinson Jetting
#1
Hey Guys! I know there used to be LOTS of posts about how to re-jet a carb, but i think they're long gone by now. Can someone tell me how to do my 05 vinny step by step from begining to end? Or give me a site that can show me how to do this and some other things. (Wallet is a little thin for dealer labor costs!) P.S. Never done ANY carb work B4!

It's been a while since I have done mine but it is pretty simple. Take the fuel line off the carb from the on/res valve. Take the plastic off the rear of the fuel tank and take the two bolts out of the rear of the tank. Slide the tank out, keeping close watch of the on/res valve. You have to twist it and work it out. Next, loosen the screws on the clamps on both sides of the carb that hold the carb in place from the intake and air box. Wiggle the carb and get it out of the air box and intake hoses. It will not come all the way out, so turn it on its side with the bottom to the right side of the atv (you may have to take the side plastic off, I can't remember). Loosen the 4 screws on the bowl and gently pull it straight off, careful not to bend your float. The main jet will be the one that goes down in the bowl, it is a 128 jet. Remove it wi a large flat screwdriver. You may have to hold the fitting it is screwed into with a (8mm?) wrench. Then just reverse everything and put it back on. Make sure you get the right type of jet, for a Keihincarb, because most are too large on the end and they won't go down inside the bowl. Hope this helps.

Dbuz, how much power did the Webcam give you? I should be getting mine any day now. Also, I see you are jetted with a #138. Is that a Keihin or Dynojet and what elev. are you at? I'm trying to find a bigger pilot jet, but having problems, its a very "special" style. My Vinson has a little stutter off of idle and is backfiring on decel with mix. screw 3 1/2 out, so I need a bigger pilot jetnow, who knows when I get the cam in.

You need to try a #44 Pilot jet. It made a difference in my Vinson I had the stutter and hessitation you are discribing. If your dealer cannot find one for you like mine you need to go to a Harley Davison dealer they use the same piolt. Make sure it is for a CV style carb. With the #44 pilot jet it runs real good no stutter off of take off.

Yea my shop had a hard time two. If you look for a pilot jet that fits harley davison they are the same. I got mine through a harley dealer. Look in dennis kirk and look up harley pilot jets. I think they order mine through Drag specialist. Where are you from?. What part of Pittsburgh?.

I would bet on it you need a bigger pilot jet. That was the same problem with mine. I live near Indiana, PA. Just check out some harley shops and make sure it is for a CV carb. Check out some online places also. The harley Pilot is the same. Dealer could not even find a listing for it.

I just got my new jets installed. Went with a #40 Keihin pilot, Keihin part #N424-25B-040. It is 15mm long and I got mine from motorcyclecarbs.com. Had to make a minimum order though. I also installed the Webcamshaft #128 Dynojet main jet and the Vinson runs much better all the way through the rpms now. Waiting on the Diamond G Racing snorkel now and will do a final tune and rejet when I get it installed. Will keep posted....
