Default Suzuki LT250r bottom end noise

I have a very well taken care of LT250r it is an 86 anyways I had a great trip at Glamis the LT was hooking up great I was able to climb Oldsmobile at 32 mph several times it was doing great. After sitting for a while at olds I started to hear a noise in the bottom end very dominant on the right hand side of the motor (side with the water pump). I started losing power and decided it was time to call it a day. I checked compression and it was at 125 psi. So for my sake I had to top end freshened up. I still have the bottom end noise and would like some help defining the problem. It has a rattle sound in nutrial and in gear it feels like it has lost power. Can you give me your thoughts please I am to a point where I am going to have to tare down the whole motor. But I haven’t a clue what to look for. Any help would be appreciated..

I have 86 lt250r also it sounds like you have a water pump problem because that is the only way you would lose power if top is fresh . the water pump gear is plastic remove right side it will be easy to tell if it is bad also check the clutch for play it can rattle. I would suggest buying a book first they are handy to have around

Did it make the noise even at idle? While not in gear? Was it more dominate on one side of the motor? I did read some where that the clutch cage is prone to braking and causes a motor noise. The noise is more dominate on the water pump side the same side the cluth is on..

I took the clutch cover and water pump cover off, and found some metal fragment at the bootm of the cover. I do believe my lower bearings are in peaces. I am going ot have to take the case a part and see what else has been destroyed. The water pump and clutch and clutch basket look pretty good. Now I just need to get this thing fixed so I can finish off the season the same way I started. With everything running.....

Okay I have everything back together and running. Looks like the small spring in one of the oil seals went out and got its self wedged in one my main shift bearing, nothing else was damaged. I have the motor back in the LT and it sounds and runs fine now. Since I had it apart I went ahead and replaced all the oil seals and bearings including the water pump . Lets hope that never happens again.
