i got a new battery in my 1986 lt 250 and the starter is working fine ,but the bike wont start unless i crank it with the pull cord.any ideas?

 

does it make a clicking noise? if it does its the silinoid

 

no the engine is actually turning over,and it is going fast enough to start but it wont start.as i said the only way it will start is by the pull cord

 

might sound far fetched but it happened to us once. We have an old ( 85- 86 ) Honda TRX 200 that ran great for nearly 20 years then one day the starter just could not start it. One pull with the cord and it would fire right up. Ripped apart the top end got a new piston kit and had the cylinder honed out and she fired right up. Don't know if that was for sure the problem but it fixed ours. Easiest bet is to check the compression and see what you got.
