what is the rectifier used for on those bikes?

the lights if your talkin bout the thing i was calling a regulator. grey with fins?

the online scematics call it a rectifier

it controls the power to the bulbs on lights as i blew bulb after bulb before noticing mine was broken where the wires go in. high rpms smoke the bulbs instantly without this.
