I had no problems getting through anything before I did any modifications and now with 26" Supergrips and a Dalton Clutch Kit, I fear no mud. I took it out last weekend to try out my new tires and came away thoroughly impressed with what the King was able to go through. Stuff I used to get hung up in on my Rubicon with Vamps I now got through with ease. It just claws, especially in diff-lock. For people to say it doesn't have enough low-end or torque AT ALL is completely stupid. The ONLY time this is even a thought is when you are drag racing and hammer it from a dead stop, where there's an ignition lag built in until only 9mph. Has no affect on slow to medium-speed applications, especially pulling and turning mud tires. Don't let the haters lie to you.

The "King" IS a good machine. I don't own one, but my buddy does. He really likes it and so do I. I've rode it a time or two and it has PLENTY of power!--VERY good ride also. Since I re-jetted my Vinny and added a pipe I can hang beside him to about 45 mph and then he LEAVES me! It does good in the mud (w/stock tires even), but I would replace them w/ some that have better tread though! Maybe one day I can get one and give the wife the Vinny!!! And I agree, there are lots of "haters" out there--don't listen to them. LOL!!!!!!!

I checked out that thread on the Yamerhammer forum and based on what you said in it, here's my honest thoughts: I chose the King for a couple huge reasons. It does absolutely everything well, not just one or two things great. It also does not break the bank in the process in comparison to some of the higher-priced big-bores such as the Polaris and the Bombardier. I'd honestly toss the Grizzly out of the equation just to make things a bit more simple because with the King, you're seriously just looking at a Grizz that's been improved in about every aspect except ground clearance, where the Yamaha still has a slight edge. Other than that, more power, better handling, more stable, better suspension, EFI, etc. The new Honda Rincon 680 EFI is a tough competitor, but it still has that strange tranny and no locker which is tough to look past when you want to tackle the toughest of terrain. The Kawasaki Brute Force 750i is a solid machine, though it's a fairly well-known fact that it may be overpowered for its chassis and this results in a lot of lean and roll in corners at considerable speed. I'm not as personally familiar with the Cats as I am with the others, but to my knowledge of what I've read on here and other forums and people that I've talked to that own them, they have copious amounts of ground clearance so they're great for mud and rocks, but aren't very stable and are quite heavy, so the sportier riding is hindered. If you've noticed, all the aforementioned machines have one or two knocks on them as far as features and/or performance. Now, the King has it's share of problems as well, though I myself and many others do not consider them to be as prominent. If you immediately put a different air filter on it upon purchase and have your A-arms sent to Powerman (check this out on Nyroc's forum (atv.dnsalias.com) to be machined, you'll be good to go, just don't tell your dealer about it) to take care of the well-documented "nervous handling" at higher speeds, you'll be truly set. However, with stock tires (may change with meatier ones, I'm yet to discover this though), this twitchy handling effect isn't felt until about 55-60mph, and I don't know about you, but rarely do I reach those speeds off-road. If you wish to wait and see for yourself, the A-arm mod isn't necessary immediately, but the filter definitely is. This machine is very stable for an IRS quad, comparable to a SRA ride on off-camber situations. It has sufficient power for any situation (except MAYBE drag racing machines of equal engine size and weight) and is probably among the best-handling and most comfortable trail quads available. No, it's not on the same level as the Bombardier Outlander 800 EFI, but for about $2000 less, I decided I could live with that. Now, if you're just a power junkie and handling doesn't matter to you (though I think eventually it will), then all this goes out the window and you should be choosing basically between the Brute Force or deciding if you wanna pony up for the most powerful production machine available in the Outlander. Everyone else can sit there and say I'm biased, and I am. But like I said earlier, I got the King for specific reasons after several months of consideration and research. Hope I've helped someway. Any questions, let us know.

I agree 100% with Red Goblin I went through the same thought process compared the same machines and came to the same conclusion The King is simply the best bang for the buck in a larger 4x4 imo. I've gone through some truly ugly mud holes with stock tires even..no problems and she is a hill climbing beast. The red ones are faster.

....Right down to the colorHey, you found a great site at Nyroc's for King information. I post there the most out of any of the three forums I visit by far.

My Vinson is black w/ the polished aluminum wheels. ( Limited Edition 05' ) It shows "film" worse than others, but I can't tell any difference in the scratches over my buddies' green King Quad. A GOOD wash would help the film. Most of the time I just "spray it off".

I've taken my KING across river beds and in light mud and it didn't miss a lick. I even tried to get it stuck since I had a winch and my buddy had a winch.
