How should I modify my Vinson???
#1
Let me start by saying that I feel that the Vinson (06 auto) is setup very well from the factory for the average rider. Example: When going around a winding curve on a dirt road at 20 to 30 mph, I hit the throttle, and power is delivered with minimal spinning of the rear tires--very controlable. But we all know that that is no fun. I want to be able to spin the rear tires into a slide. The same applies to initial take-off. I want it to either pull a wheelie or spin the tires (depending on the road surface). Am I asking for too much?
I'm sure that an aftermarket exhaust will be recomended amoung other things, but I would like to keep it as quiet as possible (and with a spark arrester).
Top end speed is not important to me. I would like more torque on the low end and mid-range.
What specifically do you recomend?

I thoroughly agree about the stock setup of the Vinsons. You're on the right track w/ the pipe. I have an HMF Utility series on mine and it makes GREAT power combined w/ the Dyno-Jet kit! I thought the same thing about the noise, but it's really not that bad. I LOVE the way it sounds! It sounds MEAN! You can run it 3 different ways. I have the quiet core for it, but I don't use it. I think I've helped sell atleast 4 of those pipes on my last trip to W.V. riding. You should also consider a clutch kit. I've heard really good things about them-especially for bottom end takeoff. I'd try either Dalton or EPI ( great feedback for both ) I don't have one, but the pipe and re-jetting alone has helped mine quite a bit! I have NO problem spinning around turns now, and it HAS helped my takeoff considerably! These mods are more for bottom end. A clutch kit should definately help you wheelie from what I've read in here in the past. I'm looking into better tires right now-might get a Dalton kit after that. Also, replace the stock air filter-I have a Moose. I must warn you though, once you get started "modding" it's hard to stop. It is for me anyway!!!!

You might want to try some of the things I have added as well as a clutch kit for the auto. Webcamshafts out of California can grind you a cam for the rpm range where you want the most power and torque. The quiet core installed in the HMF makes it a lot quieter just cruising, but wot it's pretty loud. Good luck.......

Hey Camozuki, I have a Vinson Auto (Yours is a manual right?) I was considering adding a cam from webcamshafts, my concern is that it may change the power delivery and affect the clutching ( the new rpm delivery will not match the clutch rpm settings). what are your thoughts on that do you feel the Cam was worth the money for you?

You will lose a little bottom end when installing the Webcam. I am very happy with the performance of the cam in the mid and upper rpm's. If you call and talk to them they will grind you a specific cam for a price, but from what they told me the guys that bought the cam grind they have listed on their website were happy also. I raced a 06 vinson manual, bone stock, the other day and he was able to jump out of the hole. This was because of all the added weight of the tires, skids, winch, etc. that I have installed. After I get it dyno-tuned with the proper air/fuel ratio he wont have a chance. I am running a little rich now and that alone will take some of the horsepower. I am going to get it dynoed in the next couple of weeks and let everyone know what happens. Oh, by the way it has more than enough power to do doughnuts on hard, dry grass with ease even with the Bearclaws.
