The complete intake would need to be grafted onto the cylinder.... Much too difficult for the majority of folks... not to mention cylinder warpage, etc. that would need correcting once your done. (Most people machine the base area to correct this, but then your port timing is altered...
Unless your gunning for the big HP and need the airflow (most people arent)... the 88+ cylinder will work just fine... They'll handle a pretty decent port job, and make respectable power...

just get an 87 cylinder.... its not worth it to hack up 2 jugs
just upgrade the head studs and you will be golden
87 are worth it if your going for power, it all adds up in the end and helps with the extra airflow when your porting it... gives it the extra oommpphh
