Is Z400 fast/powerful?

They can be made fast. But you have to consider what they were originally designed for. It's a great all around quad... "I just feel I'd have more fun hitting jumps and shifting gears and pulling wheelies on a sport quad"...the Z fits that description perfectly. It's tons lighter, more nimble, and a much better "play quad" than the KQ.
DS650powe- I'm not sure what Wisconsin has to offer but there are Z's here on the west coast that you don't wanna come across in a race...

yes, i'd say a z400 is an excellent all around sport quad, if not the best. it is light and nimble. so easy to wheelie. even tho my ds is putting out quite a bit of juice, it takes a little to get the big guy to wheelie, but with a z you just skoot back on the seat a little and punch it and you are pointing to the sky, it is a great sport bike.
bulldogz400 that is probably true, i've seen vids of some pretty fast z's. around here they arent so nasty. where i ride we only encounter massive amounts of Ute's, 450 sports maybe a few raptors, preds and 400ex's and btw very sharp lookin wheeler :-)

Okay I know the Z would probably be good for jumping and just messing around but it sounds like it's just mediocre stock...I do not want to get a sport quad and feel inferior to guys all the time and on here just because I'm not as fast (And the type of person I am I know I would)...so I may have to wait till I sell the KQ and get one of the 450's..or get me a 250 dirtbike, so I have all the power I need to keep up with everyone.

It's all about the rider nothing more nothing less . I can blow away people on 450's all day you would be suprised how many people that have 450's have too much motor for their ability . Drag race probably no way but we all know drag racing has nothing to do with trail riding.

a z400 will be plenty if u are trail riding, i had to ride my dads 450 foreman (DS is outta commission with bent axle) and i kept up with my friends pred no problem on the trails, its all skill when u trail ride.

dirt400 is right on the point.
It's all about the rider. If you put Doug Gust on a Honda Rincon he'd still smoke most of the riders on this site.
Drag racing is the ONLY place where it's a direct power to power comparison, and even those are subject to many variables.
I've raced with both a 450R and a YFZ on a local track, and unless we hit a long straight they didn't pull away at all. In fact the 450R was an early model and he could not even pull me coming out of corners. Sure in a drag race, the YFZ walked away from me but the 450R only beat me by about 1-2 lengths and we let off in 5th gear.
In the tight MX section the YFZ would pull away a little bit each time we came out of a corner on the MX section, but I was carrying more speed into the corners and making up some time. The guy on the Honda was in my way several times in the turns, but he had just enough power to cover his line most of the time so it was very hard for me to pass him. Eventually I did pass him but he made a mistake and cased a jump.
There is no doubt both the YFZ and 450R were faster than my z400, but there was no space to prove it in either the woods or the tight section of the MX track. The longer the straigh the more they would pull away. A better rider on my machine would have beaten both of those guys that day.
If you are coming from a utility machine I think the 450s will have more power than you will be using 95% of the time.

I always forget how the motor felt stock, until someone reminds me. I rode a stock one a couple weekends ago, and what a difference. Mine has a ton of low end grunt compared to stock, and significant gains in mid and top. All with just simple bot ons. I have an HMF pipe, uni filter, big gun +1200 rpm and advanced timing curve. I've also jetted and advanced the tps. Geared 1 down in front and 1 up in rear with 22's, so just a little lower geared than stock. Athough I can still pull a higher top speed in every gear because of the +1200 rpm.
The 05/06 models have bigger carbs with tps, an extra clutch plate, different cams, better shocks (with resi.)
Suzuki has issued a recall for the clutch cover.
