New Eiger in the sand... the excitement builds..
Gidday, Im new here and am collecting my new eiger 400 4x4 auto in a couple of days. I will be using it mainly on the station (hunting etc) but also for fishing remote areas on the coast of west australia where I live. I want to know if anyone has used an eiger much in sandy conditions, such as large dunes, salt pans and beach etc, and if so how was it? Any tips or hints would be much apreciated.

I haven't had the opportunity to ride up/down any sand dunes yet, but I have been in deep fine sand like you'd find on a beach. It did great in 2WD if you go easy on the throttle, if you mash it from a stop and it'll try to bury itself. The front end would occasionally want to sink but if I shifted my weight back a bit it was fine. My wife is lighter than me and had a little more trouble keeping the front end up so she had to carry a little more speed thru it. Neither of us had to use 4WD.
I hope to get up to some dunes near me this summer and try them out.

I've run my eiger at the Oregon Dunes 6 or 8 times and it does great when you air down your tires (like you should in all sandy/snowy conditions). Stock tire pressure WORKS, but then try lowering tire pressures to about 1.5 psi. NOW you'll be impressed. Don't worry, the tires won't come off the beads. I jump, spin broadys, hit the whoops, etc, never had a problem at all. That WAS with stock tires. My new tires don't do as well in the sand, probably because they are so stiff and they have too deep of a lug pattern. Sand is kinda picky about tires.

The Eiger will go absolutely anywhere!!
I run mine in the dunes here at 2 psi (front) and 3 psi (rear)..
Sometimes I run in 2wd, sometimes in 4-hi...
If I run in 2wd, I rev it a little faster and depend more on momentum, in 4-hi I can go slower..
Awesome, all-around machine..

Thanks,
I take the Eiger everywhere, and love it..
I have access to a friend's ranch, (38,400 acres) 3/4 of which is sand dunes..
I could ride endlessly, for 8 hours a day and never see the same dune twice..
I have complete and utter faith in the Eiger's reliability and capability..
In addition, I have ridden 100+ mile days on Terlingua Ranch, and only used a half tank or so...
Two more pics...
One pic is of my Eiger, and my friend's Eiger..

Hi guys, and thanks, it sounds like the eiger has been the right choice, though im still waiting for delivery (regional WA can be like living on the moon sometimes!) Should be in town tomorrow (tuesday)
Great photos too globug and Hemi. Globug, your ranch property looks very similar to where I will be riding so good to know all is well.
cheers again

Congrat's on aquiring a fine ATV.........I bought my 2003 Eiger new.......and I'm closing in on 3000 miles with it !
I replaced a rear driveshaft seal.......that's it !
Went through a set of tires (about 2000 miles on the stock tires)
The quad has run flawlessly since day one.
I use synthetic oil and run a K&N air filter. I service it thoroughly and regularly.
It's an automatic........and the belt is still within factory recommended tolerance after all these miles.
This quad is used in search and rescue........hence, I carry a lot of gear (weight) and run year-around in all type of weather here in Oregon.
You're going to enjoy the Eiger.
There are many bigger, but none better..........
