I bought my 03 z400 and rode it stock for almost 3 years after that i put a full yoshi system on it a air filter and re jetted the bike. it was really quick and i am starting to get board of it again. I heard something about a cdi and was wondering if they have them for a z400, how much they are and if ihe hassle is the worth the reward or what are my other options to add performance i also have holeshot hd tires and love them they get traction everywhere i ride.

depending on which one you look at , some only raise the rpm an extra 1000 and others change the power curve plus rpm's, I have the dyna cdi and its programmable . it comes already set with 4 settings in it, costing around $350, there are cheaper ones and more expensive ones, depends on what your looking for. If your looking for more power than get the 440 kit and change the cams and have it ported but then you have to rejet it all over again but you will love the power from it

Sounds like maybe you need to look at a sale or trade for an '05 or newer Z. They did some stuff to the engine and I believe the clutch to improve power, and then you can build on top of that and go with a pipe, filter and jets again.
