the 03's were the ones with weak frames. i know the 05's and up are ok!! there is a clutch cover recall for the 05' ups. make sure they get you a aluminium one!!!! i love all the 450's, but how the z rides and feels , plus reverse its hard to beat.i wouldnt get rid of mine!!! i wanted a drag bike , so i found a $500 banshee . the shee is for throwing sand on all those cocky 450's and my 400 's for giving them hell on the trails!!. good luck !!! when your ready to give it some more ponies ,just say the word. there is so much info on this forum.

The 05 clutch covers were made of Magnesium and corroding bad, so they had to change back to aluminum to prevent the corrosion from happening.

It's easier to buy on 06.

Didn't the radiator caps do the same thing?

LOL, You'll be glad you bought that KFX400. I love my Z400.

No issues with the radiator caps that I'm aware of. When my nephew brought the quads home from the service center, he stated that my son's Z400 was a few thousandths of an inch from corroding through and mine was completely blocked off. I'm just glad Suzuki Owned up to their mistake. I got a new aluminum clutch cover, oil change and they flushed the engine and put in new coolant. I know the mechanic who did the work, he's one sharp troop.

Any way of telling for sure that they changed it out after the fact? I should have marked it.
