85 lt250r?????

They are fast and very light. If you have $400.00 just laying around, it could be a good acquisition. Take into account the condition and how much $$ it will need to be a complete machine though. I have an '85, and it is a lot of fun to tool around on, handles decent and can move on out when needed. It doesn't get ridden much anymore though because I have moved onto bigger and better models.

I did buy it, ended up getting it for $300.00. Needs a ton of work though. Runs great, fresh top end, but the brakes don't work (there is no pad left on them anywhere) , needs new ball joints and new plastic and seat. The plastic is in good shape and the seat is perfect.........to bad the guy decided to "adapt" 2002 400 ex plastic to it. It actually looks ok, to bad the headlights had to be removed to get air into the radiator and you have to take the rear plastic off to start it since it is in the way of the kick starter!
Nothing a little time and effort can't fix though. I have 4 other atvs so I can still ride and take my time on restoring this one. I just always wanted one for some reason and also 2 strokes are fun!
Anyone have extra parts? LET ME KNOW Baja226sport@yahoo.com

I have seen some posts here and other websites saying that the 85-86 lt250r only has a top speed of 53 mph. Is this accurate? If so, what can be done to change this?

Yea it's true, the early models of the Lt250r were not made for racing as much as sport recriational. They were geared very low. If you wanted you could get a bigger front sprocket or larger tires. This would result in a lose of power though.
