04 ozark wont start
#1
The last time i rode my 04 ozark was in march. i parked it inside my shed next to my wifes ozark that was last rode in jan. or feb. We had a busy year so we were not able to ride. I got mine out last week and it would turn over fine but not start. The gas was almost orange and smelled nasty so i drained the tank and carb and it still wont fire up. It will run if i spray starting fluid into the carb but die when i quit spraying. Removed the carb and cleaned the bowl but i dont have a repair manual so i didnt want to chance a rebuild yet. Any ideas? My wifes ozark started up fine so i rode it about 50 miles the other day but i need to get mine going.

Tried that a couple times, still nothing. I also opened the drain screw on the bottom of the carb then turned the valve to prime and bleed the carb. Still wont stay running. I sthere something in the carb that can get plugged from old fuel?

Try starting it @ 1/4 throttle, if it wont start on full choke. You can also bump start , if cranking doesnt do it.
If itll start and run @ more than 1/4 throttle, but dies when it goes back to idle...the pilot jet is plugged or the idle speed is too low.Seeing how it sat and wasnt messed with...the idle speed should be where you last had it.
Its a very common problem when gas is left in the float bowl too long.
Next time you park it, and its gonna sit for more than a few days, drain the float bowl with that drain screw, and let the float bowl sit dry. When you go to start it next time, youll need to use pri until the float bowl refills.

I had a feeling something was plugged. If i let it sit a little while it will start up and run for about 2 or 3 seconds then die and will not restart. Anything to watch out for on these Mikuni carbs? When i took the float bowl apart there was a green residue on everything inside the carb, not very thick, just a powdery film. Where is the jet i am looking for?

Sometimes these links dont work, so go to ronnies, and look at the carb for an ozark, it doesnt matter which year.
The main jet is the one thats in the center, and that is probably clear. The pilot jet is off center and is number 28, in the parts list.( but on the microfiche picture, its actually the jet next to number 13, which is unlabled) youll see it..when you drop the float bowl and look at the the carb. It has a very tiny hole thru the center of it. When you remove it, if you cant see light coming thru the center hole..like looking down a straw, then its plugged. The hole is only about .01" in diameter, so it can be tough to clear. If it wont clear, go buy a new one. They are like 5 bucks from a dealer.
