Default Need help with 88 LT250 NON R 4 Stroke??

Hi I am new to the ATV world and just bought an 88 Suzuki LT250 4 stroke and do not know anything about it other than it is completely stock and runs good for what it is. My problem is I want to do mods to it like exhaust, air filter, and clutch and such supporting mods but have no idea on what will work as I search and never find anything for a 4 stroke lt250. Also it needs some new plastic and I don't know if the R stuff will fit or not. Any and all help with this would be helpfull. Thank you for your time.

Is it the Quadsport model? Sportier model, manual clutch, reverse lever you kick with your left heel? If so, I believe any year LT230S plastic should fit. Same will probably go for the exhaust/intake/etc. I don't remember which year it got upgraded to the 250cc engine, but I don't recall Suzuki doing any huge revamp on that model. IIRC, they just changed the bore size and tweaked the plastics a bit. Same frame and running gear otherwise. The frame is smaller than the R models, so I would just go for the Q'sport plastics. Maier should carry plastic for it. If it is the sport model, try searching for LT230S or Quadsport, as I have seen a ton of threads including a huge one about mods and such on this site. If you have the ute model, then there probably isn't much out there. Good luck, those old Suzuki's are pretty solid.

From what I have gathered it is a lt250s. I have a lt230 quadsport rolling chassie and the 250 is 1" narrower in the front and 2" shorter. Other than that they look the same. I have swapped the front hubs and rotters as well as wheels already. The shocks and springs are smaller and weaker also. Here is a pic of my bike. High light it and copy paste in add bar.

First of all welcome to the forum, and good luck with your machine, it can be a very solid trail quad.

Second of all, give us a break, you posted your first question ever 4 days ago and there was a weekend in there when a lot of people are trying t ride. Be patient and don't get your panties in a bunch. Do some "searches" while you wait for help, you may end up finding the answer first.

DG has parts for your quad. I do not know what fits from the 230 to the 250, but I would interested in finding out as well as I have the 230 version and love it.

Vince's cycle has parts for these quads as well.

Hey bro, I did a little checking, the 250cc version of the Quadsport was model years '89 and '90. Use '89 when looknig for parts and such. I have to think if you have a 230 Quadsport chassis that is wider and longer than your 250, it may have aftermarket parts on it. If anything, Suzuki would have made the 250 wider and longer because the 230 was already kind of low man on the totem pole compared to the Honda 250X and Kawasaki Mojave back in the day. They upped the displacement for '89, but the quad was still tail end charlie. That plus lawsuits and lagging sales are probably why it was discontinued after '90. That is definately an LT250S Quadsport though. Still a nice bike, I see a few of the 230's around still today.

Scooter is right, the LT250s was only offered as 89 and 90 model years. Yours is probably an 89 model that was built in 88. It's a very rare bike and not many aftermaket parts exist for it unless they also fit the LT230s. If you have a 230 rolling chassis, you'd be better off swapping the 250 motor into that chassis simply because you can still buy many parts for the 230. It should be a perfect fit as the motor casings are the same. They did change the front suspension quite a bit on the 250. The plastic is completely different than the 230 as well as the gas tank and many other parts that people don't realize. If you're dead set on using the 250 chassis, you're only hope for plastic is to retro fit 230 plastic because the frames are very similar in size and shape. You'll also have to use a 230 gas tank and seat if you attempt this.

As far as engine differences, I believe the only real difference is the cylinder. I believe they have the same stroke but the 250 has a larger bore. I think the entire lower end is nearly identical with the exception of the reverse shifter. On a LT250S, you shift the foot lever forward to go forward, and backwards to go in reverse (just like a 230E). On a 230, you shift the lever forward for reverse.

your lt250s is either a 1989 or 1990, the plastics off the lt230s will fit on it because they have the same frame, how much did you get that for?? it looks like its in nice shape. Pretty much anything off lt230's fit on the lt250s except for the engine, the CDI(i believe), and pretty much anything with the engine. The frame, wheels, rotors, brakes and basicly everything else fits. I got a lt250s that i pretty much blew up (puffs alot of blue smoke) that i am going to rebuild this winter. The pipe that i am going to buy is the cobra megaphone. I believe the K&N air filter off of a 230 should fit. The clutch you'd probably have to order from Suzuki because i dont believe there are any aftermarket clutches for it. Your bike looks in great stock shape. Whats wrong with the rear fenders?

--Oh yah how much did you pay for that?

I payed $450 for it in the shape you see it in in the pics. Right now it is getting a top end over bore and exhaust. I think at http://shop.sspowersports.com/pages/parts/home.aspx you can get almost any part from them for the bike. As for the rear plastic the entire top section of the left fender is broken off and don't have the piece, other than that it is in pritty good shape.
