1988 quad sport starting problems.. pls help
#1
Hi guys,
I'm just new to the forum, it's nice to meet ya all.
I bought a quadsport (i think it's a 1988 - 230cc) today and i had some problems with it. I hope you all good mechanics can maybe give me some advise. This is the situation:
The ATV has several little problems that hopefully can be fixed.
1. When i try to get the ATV started i had to kickstart it about a 100 times. I heard and saw it backfire alot and shut back off the first 90 times i tried to kick it. Without choke i could'nt get it to start at all and with choke very very unregular backfiring...and alot of smoke.. Eventually (45 min) i was able to get it up and running and it ran great then and ran perfectly stationary. what could cause this?? bad gas? bad air filter ? Can these machines be finetuned where they just start the first kick?
2. The light on the front and back hardly shine even on high rpm. It seems that it hardly get any power to it.. just very very little... is this fixable where it gan give nice bright light again?
Thanks so much for all your help and any input is welcome !!

StillZ1 is correct, 1 year, 20 pages and climbing, dedicated just to the 230. Some very bright and informative people.
Check out malhomre's pictures, if they don't inspire you to rebuild your bike, nothing will! Good luck, wish I had more for you, but I am just a parts replacer, not a mechanic. http://forums.atvconnection.com/mess...ARTPAGE/19.cfm

for those who care:
I bought a spray can of carburator cleaner and while the atv was running i blow a bunch of this gas into the air intake (after removing the air filter)
The atv tries to shut of doing that so you need to keep it up by giving it throttle.
After doing this for a few times.. it started to run a whole lot better.. it still smokes while firing up the first 2 min..
It didnt back fire anymore though
