Fellas,

I am getting ready to purchase my first quad. I used to race 3-wheelers and motocross years ago, so I am not a complete newby, but I haven't been on an atv for 15 years. My last toy was a KX250. I have researched the forums, and I think my needs are more geared toward a sport quad. I will be mostly trail riding in the midwest through the woods. I want to have plenty of power to wheelie and slide around corners, but I am 34 and comfort is high on the list. I am 6'2" 240.

I have narrowed my choices down to the following:

Renegade
LTZ400
KFX 700
DS 650
Raptor 700
400EX

What are your opinions on these quads? Thanks.

 

Well.... I have the Z400 and I weigh 240 and it is a great quad for me. It has very good power, more than enough in some cases.(for me..lol) I think it handles well, wheelies easily, and it seems to be very good in the corners and I do mostly trail riding as well. My step son has the 400EX and it too, is a fun reliable quad that has good handling on the trail as well as the Z, although the Z may have a little more power, its not that noticeable to guys like me. The Z was just the better choice for me. You might hope for some more input from the others on this site about the other quads or try searching discussions on these bikes. The raptor and DS will probably fit your size the best, the others will do the job, but try to find an example of each and try out the seating position. My guess is youll find the comfort level to be different.

 

Haven't seen a Renegade on the trails yet, but I know the 700 Raptor is a solid quad that has a plush ride and lots of power. Out of those listed, I would probably look at that first and the Suzuki second.
