lt 250r electrical problem
#1
I'm having problems with the electrical system on my 88 quadracer. It has been hard to start for the past year and now finally it won't start. Just before it died, I had to tow start it because I couldn't get it running. It would give me a loud backfire after kicking on it for 20 minutes and that's it. When I finally got it running it ran terrible, it wouldn't rev up and hardly run at all. I parked it and decided to change the plug, coil and cdi box since the spark seemed to be orange, not blue. I still have a weak to non existant spark. I can hold onto the black/red wire coming from the stator and kick it over and only feel a very, very weak spark. If it was a good stator I should have been knocked on my back right?
If anyone has had similar problems I would love to know how you fixed it. Ricky Stator has a stator for around $150. Should I change the stator or I am I over looking something?
Thanks

Do you have a manual if so you can check your electrical components without buying a stator and guessing. If not let me know ill give ya a link showing ya how, gl shon, i would also check the little banana keyway on the crank when you have the flywheel off make sure its not sheered . Im assuming you have good compression?

Thanks for replying, any help I can get is greatly appreciated! I'm awful at electrical stuff.
I just pulled the flywheel off and the banana key was sheared! I also noticed that I am missing my lighting coils. Is there a way to check to make sure my yellow ignition coil and pulser are ok? If you could send me the link you mentioned, that would be great.
I rebuilt the top end recently and have plenty of compression. Do you know where I can find a banana key?
Thanks again
