I have not done all of these but these are the most common. If you search thif forum you should come across all of these.

rejeting carb
clutch kit
in line fuel filter
larger tires

some- upgrade exhaust pipe

I believe the in line fuel filter and the rejeting is the two most common with the larger tires.

If I were to add a fuel filter, I would just cut out a section of the fuel line and add the filter? The whole line is only about 5" long now. Also, isn't the petcock the normal hang up when if you get crap in the gas tank?

Yes on the location and the petcock, but the fuel filter catches more crap than the petcock can. Much better to catch it in the filter than let it get to the carb.
Though maybe on the 07's they fixed the problem of crap in the gas tank.

What kind of crap in the gas tank? I haven't heard of this problem. The tank is plastic and unless you were to get something in it while pouring in the gas, there shouldn't be anything in there but gas.

Or maybe from the vent hose. Would this allow mud or grit in if it were to get blown up the hose?

I think I'll be putting a fuel filter on. Just any fuel filter would work?
