ok so here it goes..yesturday we went out riding and the bike seemed to be running fine..except there was a couple of times when I pull in the clutch and hit the start button but nothing happend..Then i tried it again and it started fine, but today i took it out and went up the street once then came back up to clean off the rest of the mud. This is when the problem starts...I tried to start it up and it started but in a couple of seconds it shut off. I tried it a couple of more times and it wont start at all but there are some times when it starts up but if you give it some throttle it will shut off or it will shut off by itself in a couple of seconds..I'm not sure what the problem is but also i tried to switch it to 1st gear and when i try to start it, it tried to move itself a little...got any ideas?

 

When you say it won't start do you mean it won't fire up, or it won't even crank over?

 

it cranks but wont fire up...I just tried it again today and i thought it ran fine so I let it sit for a little while and after a minute it shut off and again wouldnt fire up

 

fuel issue ?squirt some starting fluid in when cranking to see if it pops

 

Yeah check the fuel filter

 

oh wow i feel stupid. I finally got the time to try to find out whats wrong with my z400 it starts right up. I started her up and she ran fine but I assumed it would shut off like it did before so I let it run and after a couple of minutes I started to rev it up and everything was fine..I feel really dumb but I have no idea what happend

 

Hey sometimes they fix themselves!!

 

if you are cleaning it with a water hose you could of got water in the switches and in the wiring to the cdi box. water does amazing things to an electrical system. and sometimes it doesnt take much to mess things up
