A 250 would be pushing it, but an 800? You will be better off without riding with them.. That is disaster waiting to happen...

 

My 12 y/o son has been riding since he was 4. He is a better rider than me, altho a bit too cocky. He rides a Z400 sport. It is relativley light. Maybe 100 lbs more than a small kid's quad. My son is also large for his age, 150lbs++. Anyone we've ridden with (and there have been many), knows he can handle this quad comfortably. He also wears full gear including Nemesis body armor.

BUT THAT'S HIM!! I wouldn't let him double his friend on an 800 Polaris. That's crazy. The Polaris weighs over 800lbs. It's a tank. What type of ride were you going on and what type of terrain? If it was a simple trail ride with no off-camber... I might have considered it, but definitely not with a young rider with another young passenger. The only thing that would have worked in your favor that day, is that IF you would have went on the ride, chances are the Polaris would have broke down early and therefore limited your liability exposure!

I agree, you set a great example for your own son that day.

 

Of all the members on this forum I would probably be the one most likely to side with the neighbor, but even I have to put my foot down somewhere. No way I would want the responsibility of a 12 yr old on a 800 riding double! And for that matter I'm not sure I would want the responsibility of a 12 yr old riding anything (especially double) of any size,,,, except for the closest of friends,,,, maybe.

I'm surprised the neighbor isn't a bit more reasonable about this. Surely he can understand your point?

 

well i guess my neighbour went to work and told some guys what went down and he came over with a beer in hand and head down telling me that everyone at his work told him he was off his nut to let the kid ride the 800. i know at least 4 of them ride dirtbikes and quads and he said they told him if it was them they would have taken the keys out of the machine and no matter what would not give them back till the father came back so they could tell him what a dumb *** he is . so maybe something good came out of all this. i have a 2005 LT160 sitting in my garage that no one rides and he wants to know if his nephew could try it out next weekend says the kids father wants to meet and apologize to

 

Yeah, that sounds more like reality. Good for you and him! Everybody is safe and friends too!

 

Here's a start ,we have to look out for our own people that ride ,and even set our foot down when nessacary ,again GOOD JOB.

 

LT160 is an awesome 'between size" quad. I mean between smaller kids stuff (50cc-125), and too big (like 250-400cc stuff). Good to learn to shift gears, etc.. Great for the 12 y/o.

So how much riding experience did 12 y/o on the 800 Popo have??? I was thinking maybe he had tons of seat time already, thus the reason dad was comfortable letting him ride the monster. Now if he wants him to try out the 160, that is just bizarre. i think I'd give my kid a BB gun before a shotgun.
