MY COUSIN AND I WERE RIDING AROUND 60 MPH AND HIS ATV RAN OUT OF GAS.HE TRIED CRANKING IT OVER WHILE STILL COASTING AROUND 50 MPH,FINALLY IT STARTED.THE NEXT DAY WHEN HE PUT GAS IN IT,IT STARTED AND HAD A KNOCKING NOISE LIKE A UPPER END KNOCK,WE PULLED THE COVERS OFF COULDNT FIND ANY THING,BUT THE TIMING CHAIN HAD AROUND 3/4 OF AN INCH PLAY IN IT.DOES ANY1 KNOW HOW TIGHT IT SHOULD BE?CORRECTION THAT WAS THE OIL PUMP CHAIN, BUT STILL ANY1 KNOW OF THIS KNOCK

well what I would do is take out the timing chain tensioner and let it extend all the way then put it back in. If you can put it all the way back in then chain is bad. Now I have seen where the centrical clutch nut came loose and it sounds like it's knocking. (it's the one in oil behind the clutch inner cover)
Other than that mine had a score cylinder and piston and that also knocked so possiblitys are endless
