hello, just wrecked my 300cc chinese wheeler, and wanna upgrade to one of these. My riding experience is limited to about 3 wks, so im kindof leaning towards the ltz, however i love power, and down the road i miight have wished i bought the ltr instead, but if i get that, im afraid it may be too much for my limited experience. If money is not a big issue, would it be worth it to go for the ltr despite my limited experience?

 

I have a z and its all the power im gonna need for what i do. I just got back from peru mass. and i have encountered all types of riding conditions up there from straight aways to crossing rivers. That z will give you all the power you need for a while and you can always pipe it out and modify the intake for cheap dollars. I guess it depends on what kind of riding you but just be careful those 450's are no joke power wise.

 

Depends on what you want to do with it. Riding mx track, the 450 will be better, trailriding, 400 will be better. The ltr450 is made to be an mx machine, very small tires, low ground clearance, wide. Harder to manage on the trails, but it will smoke the 400 on a track. That said, the 400 shouldn't be a slouch by any means.

Get the 450. I had a ltz 400 (great bike) but grew out of it. Gave my wife my z and picked up the 450. You will grow out of the 400. Still does good on the trail. If price dosnt matter get the 450, youll love it!

 

The Z would definately be the better trail machine and the R the better track machine out of the box. I do okay on the trails with the LTR. It's obviously not the best for trails but it will do fine. I'll sell you my ltr if you're near Ohio. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

 

The LTR is not for beginner riders. Go with the Z and get a couple of years under your belt.

 

As low and wide as the 450 is, you shouldn't have a problem handling it. I have always felt newer riders are better off with the best handling machine they can afford. The key is, whichever way you go, ride within your ability and at a reasonable speed for the terrain. For trailriding, the 400 is definately all the quad you should ever need. The '09 model even has the LTR look and efi if that tickles your fancy.

 

Usually I don't say "this quad is for begginers" or "this one is not" because any machine can be rode in a safe or unsafe way. However, if you totalled a 300cc China quad within 3 weeks then you are not likely one of those who will ride safely (by safely I mean riding in a way that minimizes your odds of getting hurt instead of riding in a way that will clearly get you hurt). Therefore you should probably go with something less powerfull like a 200cc China quad. That way you will have a better chance to gain skill and realise getting hurt sucks before you cause yourself severe and/or permanent injury. Having wrecked the quad you have does not seem like a logical reason to get a more powerfull one.
