I went to check the clutch oil level in my 87 LT250 and realized there is no level indicator plug or site glass or anything. How do you know how much to add? The Clymer manual is worthless here. I am trying to determine if I am leaking oil into the crankcase, and if I can't keep an eye on the level..how do I do that?

I cannot say on the LT250 but on my LT500R. There is a screw on the clutch side that you remove. When you add oil you fill till it stats to drip out then stop. Hope this helps.

on my 85 there is a little hex bolt that you unscrew. its on the clutch side and its right above one of the screws on the bottom of the case. hope that helps you out.

The 85&86 have that plug to check the oil level, but the 87 doesn't. Clymers doesn't give a clue on it either

I hope this will help. I have an old Clymer for the 85's through 88's and all they say in the old book is that the the refill capacity is approximately 1.9 US pt (900cc), and there is no check bolt like the 85's & 86's. The only way I would know to check to see if you are loosing oil is to drain the oil into a measuring cup and see if you get out what you put in.
