Exclamation 1986 Suzuki LT250R

I've got the 1986 model and I've been running it for about 10 years now. Here is a basic list of things to watch out for:

1. Chain tension. The 85-86 models use an oval style chain tension system around the rear axle. If you jump or ride the bike rough, it's easy to pop the chain off.

2. Clutch spindle. The clutch spindle connecting the clutch cable to the clutch basket assembly is not secured. There is no bolt to hold that in like the later models. If you pull that out too far, your clutch will disengage.

3. AIR LEAKS! The 85-86 models are prone to air leaks on the stator cover, intake port, and exhaust port. This is the most common cause of engine seizure.

4. Don't run out of gas! Running the 85-86 models out of gas completely is a very bad idea. As the LT250R is a premix model, running it out of gas quickly dries out your piston and cylinder. This is the 2nd most common cause of piston seizure.

Wiring diagrams are available on google images. Everything else is pretty simple. Sorry to hear about the thrust washers! I know those are a pain.

You'r engine is about to seize, back off the throttle, up your oil/gas ratio, and shoot some WD40 in the spark plug hole before it's too late! Sounds like you didn't follow the "Break IN" period instructions.

Your main jet is clogged, the bike isn't getting enough air, or you're losing compression.
