Default Quadsport 230 any good?

Yes, they are decent little quads. Back in the day they took a hind seat to the Honda 250X and Kawasaki Mojave, etc, but still a fun machine. If you do buy one, just remember it is a fairly low tech 230/250cc 4 stroke and it was never intended to run with the race crowd. The new Yamaha raptor 250 is basically built in the same spirit of the Qsport, but with a few modern goodies thrown in.</end quote></div>

The 1989 and 1990 250 version was Suzuki's answer to the 250x. The 250 is just about anything you can think to do to your 230 already done for you stock! But they only made it 2 years and didn't make another sport quad for the better part of a decade. They were just too late in catching the 250x to gain any market share.

The 250x and mojave both had 4 valve heads and 58mm strokes. The mojave had dual cams too. Both were meant to rev out. The quadsports had 2 valve heads and smaller carbs. They were more torque monsters than the 250x or mojave. The Mojave is 380lbs dry too, since its water cooled. Kinda stinks that its that heavy. By the time you fill it with water and gas it would be over 400lbs. That's what the warrior weighs wet! Might as well get a warrior and run circles around all of em.

I'd say the 250x and the 250S are pretty closely tied for the #1 250 4-stroke quad of all time.

Curious I was looking online at a dealer near me and they have an 87' for 1500$ which seems a little pricey for a 21 year old quad, and what is the name of the manufacturer who does the big bore kits?

Well, unless you're REALLY lucky, you can buy a $200 quad, but by the time you have it the way you want it, you'll have $1500 in it. That my little rule of thumb. You send in your jug and he resleeves it and sends it back with a high comp piston and cometic gasket. You get your choice of 258cc or 265cc. I went with 258 so I'd have at least one overbore.

Some 230's had auto clutches, just not the sport.

My old ladies 1993 230 "E" (auto clutch) is quite the torque machine!! K&N filter and a stage 1 cam, really woke it up!

Yeah, even with my big KN and 32mm carb I can still idle around the trail in 2nd gear. That's probably what.. 5-600 rpm??? I could actually ride anywhere I needed to go with my right arm behind my back.

Of course I STILL wouldn't have any brakes! Sorry PG, just haven't made it that far yet.

No worries man! I raced for a billion years and just as many injuries before I discovered that breaks were a good thing!
