Default lt 160 ??? help!!

Hello, great sight! I bought my daughter a 1989 suzuki lt 160 that is in great shape. She had a hard time shifting with her foot, so I installed the Moose engineering hand lever shifter. After several rides , now the transmission jumps out of 3,4,5 gears. 1 and 2 are just fine. I'm thinking a shift fork got bent? Not sure, though.. I realize the whole engine needs to be disasembled to get to the tranny, what would something like that cost?

If you brought it to a shop, it would cost more than you paid for it.

I talked to a guy who does motorcycle side work last night. He said $250 for labor plus cost of parts. He also thinks it may be just a shift fork.

Default lt 160 ??? help!!

Update.. the mechanic called and said that a "t" bolt that holds the clutch inplace was broken off and got wrapped around the trans gear shaft causeing the gears to not engage all the way. Basically just a gasket kit and $250 in labor for splitting the cases. He also commented that this motor is in excellent condition for its age. Jerry
