Default lt500r not sure if its a good deal

I just signed up with this forum. From what I have read it sounds like there is a lot of good members and people helping people (which is hard to find these days. So I would like to say thank you for any one replying to my posts as I will do the same for you.

Today I picked up a 1987 lt500r in ok shape. Everything is there but does not run. Seems to have good compression. Durablue axle, fmf system, pro tapers in good shape but Plastic and seat cover is beat. some bolts missing and cobed. Small crack in swingarm about 1/2 long that can be welded (crack is not on factory welds but on top towards middle of it). Frame is straight and no bends. No air filter was present in box and throat on carb was dirty but cyl and piston looked unharmed ( possibly could have been diss. prior to running that way) steering stem has been welded. Most bearings are shot. Paid $850 though it is hard to find one in new york state and to travel would not be cost effective. I do plan on complete rebuild on this machine but was not sure if this was a good price. I do thank you for any replys and or help.

Thanks, I just signed up. It was more of an impulse buy and deal was gonna be gone later that day. After further investigation these quads are somewhat rare if not already restored and selling for thousands. Thanks for the reply

It seems as if I have a need for lots and lots of projects. Currently I have these I need to finish

1986 Honda trx250r
1986 Suzuki quadracer 250
1992 Suzuki Quadracer 250

and now a 1987 quadzilla all I need now is a tecate 4 250, and banshee and my 80's 2-stroke quad collection is complete ( except for all the restoration of them). Oh and also the extremely rare tiger 250 and 500. Oh well the collection has begun.

They seem like a well built machine. But to find one and to find one in decent shape to restore is tough. I was even surprised that the sprocket cover bolt flanges were not busted like the majority of the 250's. It may not be a problem on these. I'll have to take some pics and post them tomorrow. I'm just not sure on what I payed for it and what condition it is in if was worth it.
