I have an 87' LT500r, i have a DG pipe and silencer on it. The quad was running fine till i replaced the , believe it or not stock air filter, with an aftermarket foam filter. Seems like it starved for fuel when opening up the throttle past 3rd or 4th gear......it just did'nt pull. I opened up the carb and it had a 360 main jet. DG suggests 2 sizes up on the main jet. First of all what size is the stock main jet? If anyone has a DG pipe and silencer set-up on their Zilla, would you share some carb jet sizes that will work well with my DG pipe? Main? Pilot? Air screw turns?Needle position? Any help is appreciated.....Thanks

Thanks for replying to my post.......It has the original air box but the cover has been removed for more air flow. I have the stock Mikuni carburator on the Quad.

 

did it sound like it didnt clean out?i mean it ran great low to mid rage?then mid to top it fell on it face?if you get it going then open it all the way does it kill the motor,or does it bog down?i need to know this in order to help.

 

When I was in 3rd or 4th I opened full throttle and it starved for fuel. It did not kill the motor or Bog, it starved for fuel. I backed off the throttle and the Zilla ran fine. I just pulled the carb apart and found a 22.5 pilot. It's my understanding that that pilot is for Higher altitude riding. I'm putting in the stock 30 pilot with the 430 main jet and see what happens....Let me know if you come up with another jetting recommendation...

 

what the needle pos.?i always put mine in the middle groove.what the air fuel screw set at?how many turns out?

 

The needle is in the 3rd position.......The air screw is 1 1/2 turns out....I'm trying out the Zilla tomorrow with the 430 Main, #30 Pilot, Air Screw 1 1/2 turns out....Hope this works out!!!!!!

 

air screw if i remember correctly is 1.5 turns out,the jetting your trying should work,i used that combo before worked great.

 

The 430 Main with the #30 pilot and 1.5 turns out setting worked great. I have tons of top end. It pulls super hard. Do you thing adding the V-Force cage and reeds help out the bottom end? Thanks for your help. It's appreciated.......Alex

 

Vitos Performance custom made me 2 "V" force cages,one is on the quad and the other is sitting on a shelf still in good shape.He made me an upgraded cage with tha actual "V" force cage verses the cage from a 750 Kawi wave runner.It seemed to improve the low end performance of my 87 Zilla plus a top end gain as well.The cage on the shelf is forsale if your interested,I'll get some pics of it and get them to you VIA email,just need your addy.
