Default 2003 LTZ 400 oil changing???

I have the atv listed above. I baught some oil filters for it online because it is way overdue for an oil change. My question is what kind of oil do I need to get? Can I just put like regular automobile motor oil in it like some 10W-40 or something, or does it have to be specifically atv motor oil? Will it mess my engine up if I use regular auto oil rather than atv oil?

Do not use regular motor oil. AMSOIL is some of the best atv oil on the market I use it in all my atv's.

These atvs use a wet clutch soyou need to use something made for that such as valvoline motorcycle oil, that's what I use, or any other oil that can be used with a wet clutch. Don't quote me but I believe that Rotella T 15 40 is what a lot of guys use over on z400central

I use Amsoil 10-40 but you can use anything designed for a motorcycle with a wet clutch.......... If you use regular automotive oil you will smoke the clutch plates in no time. The friction plates will get glazed over and the clutch will start to slip. Auto oils are also not designed to stand up to the shearing caused by transmission parts.
